FAQ
Direct answers, including the ones that are “no”.
What EverHandover is, what it is not, and what has not been decided yet.
- Is EverHandover a will?
- No. It helps you organise and hand over information and instructions. It is not a will and does not take the place of one, or of any other estate-planning document. If you upload a copy of your will, it is a reference copy only.
- Does EverHandover transfer assets?
- No. Banks, brokerages, insurers, property registries and other institutions follow their own legal and operational processes. EverHandover tells the people you chose what exists and who to contact.
- Does EverHandover act as my executor?
- No. You can label a person as your executor so that they receive the right handover, but the label gives them no legal status. Their authority comes from your will and the law.
- Is EverHandover a law firm? Do you give legal advice?
- No. EverHandover is not a law firm and gives no legal, tax or financial advice. Templates are the same for everyone and fully editable. There is no AI assistant giving guidance.
- Does a missed check-in mean EverHandover assumes I died?
- No. Silence alone never releases anything: not inactivity, not a missed check-in, and not a failed or expired payment. A missed check-in starts attempts to reach you. Every release starts with an act by a person you named.
- How is a death handled?
- A person you named submits a death certificate matching your legal name and date of birth, with a sworn statement. You are notified on every channel. A waiting period passes without you signing in, nobody you named objects, and two staff reviewers confirm that the procedure was followed. After a short hold, the handovers are released. EverHandover follows this procedure; it does not certify a death and cannot promise that a submitted document is genuine.
- Can EverHandover determine legal or medical incapacity?
- No. EverHandover makes no medical or legal determinations. You can prepare what should be handed over in case of incapacity: a person you named makes the request with the supporting evidence your instruction requires, you are notified and can stop it, and EverHandover checks only that the steps were followed.
- Can recipients access everything?
- No. Each recipient sees only the handover you prepared for them, and only after the conditions for its release have been met. Nothing is shared in advance unless you share a pack yourself.
- Can EverHandover read my content?
- It depends on the content. Documents and sensitive notes are sealed: encrypted in your browser, so that EverHandover alone cannot read them. Short pointers and instructions are stored encrypted with a key EverHandover holds under strict controls, so that they can be released when your conditions are met. The Security page sets out who can read what.
- Does EverHandover replace a password manager?
- No. EverHandover does not accept passwords, PINs, recovery phrases, full account numbers or Social Security numbers. Keep those in a password manager, and record in your plan only where they are and who should know.
- How do people get added to my plan?
- By your personal invitation. You get a link and send it yourself. Until the person joins, EverHandover stores only the label you gave them. They enter their own contact details and consent. Recipients must be adults.
- What are future messages?
- Messages you prepare for people you choose, for delivery on a future date or after a release under your conditions. The person receiving can decline them. Delivery depends on your plan being in its term and on contact details that still work.
- Can I test my plan?
- Yes. A practice handover runs the process with example content, clearly marked as a test, without releasing your real handovers. It shows whether people can be reached, can get in, and understand your instructions. It cannot prove how a real handover will go later.
- What if I change my mind?
- You can change, re-arm or revoke any handover, and edit your disclosure instruction, at any time. While a death report is open the plan is locked to everyone except you: signing in and confirming your identity stops the process.
- What happens when my term ends, or if I cancel?
- Terms are prepaid for 3, 5 or 10 years and never renew automatically. After a term ends, your armed handovers stay releasable for a grace period. The length of that period, refunds on cancellation, and how long data is kept afterwards are still being decided, and will be published before EverHandover takes any payment.
- What happens if EverHandover shuts down?
- You would receive a refund for the unused part of your term, and you can export your plan and keep a printable copy at any time. The full wind-down procedure has not been published yet. EverHandover should never be the only copy of anything important.
- Who can use EverHandover?
- EverHandover is being built for adults living in the United States. It is not yet open to customers; availability will be confirmed in the terms of service at launch.
